Everyone knows that no wedding is complete without the traditional Wedding Speech given by members of the the bridal party and the bride and groom's families. This can create fear and discomfort for many people. In order to help you, we have listed some easy to give speeches, toasts and poems to make the day a little nicer.

The Big Day: The Wedding Toasts and The Wedding Vows

The big day is here now, the bride and groom are nervous, as they should be, and all the speeches are ready for the reception. Everybody is raring to go! However, before the wedding reception starts, you must make sure that everybody knows what their wedding toasts are. It can be difficult if someone steals another's toast, so make sure everybody has a list of who they are proposing the toast to. This is especially true if you are breaking with tradition. Tradition in the USA especially is tenuous, and varies from state to state, so it is advisable to check with everybody that you are all on the same wavelength.

Origination of the Toast

The toast is believed to have originated from the days when it was common to poison one's enemies by slipping something into their glass of wine. The toast was poured from a common bowl or pitcher and drunk first by the host to show that the wine was safe to drink. This would be done each time the pitcher was filled.

The wedding toasts are traditionally a way of the guests thanking, and drinking to the health of, the more important people involved in the event. These are the bride and groom, the bridesmaids and the bride's family, who traditionally finance the whole thing. In modern times it has been occasional practice for the groom and his parents to contribute to the costs of the wedding and reception, but we are talking tradition here, and this is the reason for the toasts being to whom they are given.
